“Expedition & Project Planning Workshop”
Saturday 7th November 2020
9 am through till 5-30 pm including a buffet lunch
Is being run by Norfed / BSAC jointly
Norfed has put together a full day’s workshop introducing divers into the thought-provoking side of Expedition & Project Planning. So, we have invited Andy Hunt BSAC’s Expeditions Officer to help us to frame the workshop and to help us put together a group of highly respected divers who have been there done it and worn the tee-shirt for many years.
“Meet your Northern Coaching team”, your “Three Regional Coaches” Samantha Clark North West Region – John Barton Yorkshire Region – Dave Woodwood North East Region. Joining us will be Kevin Phillips & Mark Paisey of “High Ball” fame and Norfed’s D/O Peter Routledge. This will be a fantastic opportunity for all participating in the workshop to have the chance to meet in a relaxed environment, to mix, mingle and network together.
The workshop will be particularly helpful to members in clubs who perhaps don’t have the expertise or equipment within their branch for adventure and would like the chance to get out there and do it. During the day we will be covering:
What an expedition or project is! Diving with and for a purpose! The importance of research! The importance of forming a core team and the responsibilities within it! Looking at risk assessment both on shore and under the water! Dealing with all emergencies and back-up planning!
These are just a few points that will be covered during the day’s workshop. We will be going into greater detail and our speakers will be bringing in a lot of anecdotal things that went well but importantly things that went wrong! Kevin Philips and Mark Paisey will be rounding off the day with points they both feel were very important when they recovered the “Bouncing Bomb”. The tireless work that went into the planning and the time it took.
One of the main aims of Norfed since 1958, has always been to support divers from all disciplines to join us on diving “Expeditions and Project”, giving them the opportunity to integrate and to participate in the cross fertilisation of ideas. This always happens when club members meet for events and weekends diving.
All our speakers are full of excitement and enthusiasm and will generate and build your confidence, helping you to drive your club into embracing what planning is all about. With all the collective skills on the day and through the speaker’s anecdotal experiences in BSAC as well as the history of organising diving expeditions and project planning. All involved will be able to take this knowledge away with them.
The charge for this fantastic workshop and the experienced team of speakers including a buffet lunch is only £25.00

Norfed’s Annual Dinner and this year we are having a disco dance as well
Broadfield Park Hotel Dinning room
This year because we are having the Annual Norfed Weekend in this more centrally positioned town of Rochdale we can now again after many years bring back the dancing again with a bar that will stay open for us.
As usual it will be optional black tie and much more seating so we can accomodate more people. The hotel has only got 28 bedrooms and thay are getting full as of now. However, there are a few hotels in the area very close and we will put them on here very soon.
This year our guest speaker is Mark Paisey. Diving has been part of his life since hewas 18, he has been a BSAC member when he qualified as a Third Class Diver. Since then he has held many positions in his club East Cheshire SAC and has led many projects such as the Normandy 75 – The High Ball Project. He is a FCD and an active Advanced Instructor on the Instructor Training Scheme. He dives OC and CCR to Adv Mix Gas (AMG) as well as teach OC Technical Diving to AMG and can train Technical Instructors to EMG.
