It is a small porthole recovered from a wooden cruiser which had sunk behind Belle Isle on Lake Windermere.
The cruiser was called the “Moon Mist” and it had a bit of a following as it was regularly lifted by many clubs as a lifting exercise. “I think the lake warden would take a dim view if you tried it now”, how things have changed. It would seem that it was the joint effort by Blackpool & Fylde and the West Lancs Sub Aqua Clubs that presented it to NORFED in 1979.
